The Fish Shop Crew

The Fish Shop Recording & Rehearsal Studio has operated from its current location at Port Adelaide since 1998, and in its earliest form has been in existence for over 20 years. We have a reputation as an honest, professional and reliable studio, catering for young up and coming bands as well as established musicians. We also encourage independent producers to record and work at the Fish Shop Studio. ### Current producers working from the Fish Shop are NESTA MITCHELL, KYLE BLOSSGARD, & JASON ‘JAY’ ILLMAN.

The studio has the facilities to produce high quality commercial recordings that equal the quality of other studios. We also have a passionate, nurturing philosophy and provide a guiding and helping hand when needed, and hope to establish a long-term relationship with the local artist/bands. Today there are now 5 rehearsal rooms and several separate recording areas, supporting Sonar 5.5, Adobe Audition(Cool Edit Pro), Nuendo and Pro Tools.

Since establishing the Fish Shop Recording & Rehearsal Studio, the studio has recorded well over 350 bands/artists from all rock, pop, hard core, punk, metal, hip-hop, electronica, acoustic through to relaxation & meditation recordings, as well as soundtracks for children’s pantomimes.

Nesta Mitchell (Owner/Manager/Engineer)

Nesta started his career back in high school, trained in classical guitar. He soon went on to Rock and Pop music playing in bands for many years during the 80's( including Tall Hairy Cats, Doctor Damage, Vegemite vigilantes, Katz Kurio as well as other bands and line ups .In the nineties, founded Butchered records and ran live to airs for 3D radio in Adelaide. Has recorded and worked with hundreds of bands and artists in most aspects of production. Has an Advanced Diploma in Music Production and teaches basic computer music skills to interested people through WEA.

Kyle Bloksgaard (Independent Engineer Metal/ Hardcore Bands)

Kyle Bloksgaard from SLAUGHTER HOUSE RECORDING http://www.myspace.com/slaughter_house is an Independent producer working from the Fish Shop Recording & Rehearsal Studio. Band recorded include In the Shadows, Meat Wallet, This Side of the Massacre, Fatality Cries, Equal Minded Closed Casket, The Idols, Rivalry, Robotosorus, 1000 nightmares, The Idols, With Dying Words, Stronghold, Through Closed Eyes & more.

Jayson 'Jay' Illman (Independent Engineer, Punk / Hardcore)

Jay

Recently qualified in Cert IV technical production Jay currently plays guitar in Adelaide Punk Band, "The Brews" Jay has also mixed and co-produced Punk & Hard Core bands Australia wide. Including, Destined to Die, Jungle Fever, 50 Lions, Before it all ends and many more.

Dave Ebsary (Engineer & PC Technician)

Dave's background includes playing guitar in many bands during the 1980's, Tall Hairy Cats, Katz Kurio and many more. Dave's mixing career spans over 25 years and has produced, mixed and mastered 100's of Adelaide Bands & Artists. Dave's skills also cover various computer software and hardware configurations, specialising in music related programs.

Robyn Trinne (CD Layout/Design/printing)

Robyn specialises in Band graphic design & artwork. Direct to DVD and CD label printing, duplication, layout and artwork, at competitive prices. POA

Preparation Tips!

1. Know your songs: practice, if the whole band does not know the song your wasting your time and money!

2. Before recording: new strings for bass and guitar will improve the sound immensely. (if you can't afford the extra $$$ boil your strings in hot water then dry them immediately applying a string solvent to stop rusting.)

3. Drummers: old skins are great but sometimes they have past their use by date. (New ones are heaps better but please, test-drive them for a few days prior to recording!)

4. Be on time: your session starts at the time you book not when you arrive.

5. Have a rough mix: or a good idea where all the extra parts fit like, vocals, harmonies, guitars and other accompaniments.

6. You get what you pay for: A demo's a demo & a CD recording is a CD recording! Demos will tend to have mistakes, as they are quicker and cheaper to record.
